FRANKFURT, Germany — Germany coach Joachim Loew made a surprising last-minute change in his preliminary World Cup squad on Wednesday, calling up midfielder Christoph Kramer and dropping forward Andre Hahn. Loew also cut three players from the group that will go to a training camp next week. Kramer, who plays for Borussia Moenchengladbach, made his international debut in the 0-0 draw against Poland on Tuesday. Experienced defender Marcell Jansen of Hamburger SV and Schalke midfielders Leon Goretzka and Max Meyer were placed on call, but will not travel to the camp in northern Italy and the World Cup in Brazil unless a member of the squad suffers an injury. Kramer was the unexpected beneficiary of the bland match against Poland. Loew said he needed back-up for the central midfield because several players are recovering from injury. “This decision has nothing to do with the performance of Andre Hahn, we were very pleased with him,” Loew said. “The reasons are purely linked to the position. We have several central midfield players who have been injured recently and some who are coming off long layoffs. So we want to have another option and to be prepared for all eventualities. Christoph Kramer left a very good impression,” Loew said. Hahn is nominally an attacking midfielder, whose speed makes him a perfect counter-attacking player. He led Augsburg with 12 goals this season. Kramer is a hard-working central midfielder who is known for covering a lot of ground. He could step in if Sami Khedira or Bastian Schweinsteiger fail to regain full fitness. Khedira has played one full match since a knee injury in November and Schweinsteiger is nursing a knee problem. The domestic season ends on Saturday with the German Cup final between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. A dozen Germany players are on both sides and will join the national team after the final. Loew decided to drop Jansen although the position of left back is seen as a problem spot on the team. “Marcell was injured in March in the friendly against Chile and although he is healthy again, his fitness is still not optimal, he hasnt played much,” Loew said. As for Goretzka and Meyer, Loew said they were young players the future ahead of them. Germany plays Cameroon on June 1, after which Loew will announce his final 23-man squad. Germany will host Armenia on June 6, one day before flying to Brazil. Germany opens its World Cup campaign on June 16 against Portugal, then plays Ghana on June 21 and ends the group stage against the United States on June 26. Harry Douglas Titans Jersey. Ryan Succop Titans Jersey.com) – A chant of Zeke reverberated around AT&T Stadium before Ezekiel Elliott powered into the end zone for his fourth and final touchdown. Its quite surprising to watch the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on the practice field this week, loose and calm with no sense of panic or despair a€” considering their four-game losing skid, defeats in six of their last seven games, and sitting in last place in the West Division with just five games to play. Indeed, its a thorough departure from the attitude and tone that engulfed the club last season when October rolled around a€” they were on a three-game losing streak with only a pair of wins next to their name in the East Division standings. But this year something has changed, and its not just the move to the West where the competition jockeying for playoff position is much more fierce for the 6-7 Blue Bombers. (Mike) OShea can say that its not him but he brings a lot of this atmosphere to us, said second-year Bomber Greg Peach of the rookie head coach. It allows us to be the way that we are and compete and have fun doing it. Its a lot of different things. You cant really put your finger on one thing. But for sure Im having a great time playing out here this year. We know what we have here. We know what we can do, and if we shore up what we need to we can get on a run starting with this game (in Ottawa). Determined. Conviction, were the two words OShea chose to describe his teams mood in the days following their 16-11 Week 14 loss to Hamilton. Theyre going to stick together and focus and theyre going to sacrifice what they need to sacrifice to try and get this next win. I have not instilled (those values). Those guys have those values. Thats the bottom line, that weve got a group of guys that came in with those values and theyve shared them amongst each other. It makes it easy, but youre right, it feels good watching them, understanding that theyre not quitting or anything. Theyre determined. But it often takes a leader to bring out the best in collected individuals. It always is from the top down, said fifth-year veteran Chris Greaves. Mike OShea a€” thats his attitude. Never say never, and never quit. So we always bbelieve we can win and its never going to let us down regardless of the circumstances.dddddddddddd Were just going to do our jobs, plain and simple, do whats been asked, and keep high spirits doing it. Absolutely (OShea helped foster that attitude) because hes been through it all. Youve got to listen to a guy whos played 16 years and has won three Grey Cups. Plain and simple. He knows whats required and it comes from the top down. NOTES: Following a week of speculation about whether he would be able to play against Hamilton, quarterback Drew Willy appears back to his old self in practice this week after taking Tuesday off due to some overall body soreness. He will start in Ottawa on Saturday… Middle linebacker Ian Wild (shoulder) and Nick Moore (ankle) will both miss a fourth-consecutive game, while also both looking like theyre champing at the bit to get back into the lineup… Right guard Pat Neufeld (calf) will miss his fifth-straight game this week, with Jarvis Jones remaining at his spot, and Devin Tyler getting a second start at right tackle… Standout rookie halfback Bruce Johnson returns to the starting lineup after missing last week with a heel contusion. Johnsons fill-in last week Johnny Sears, who missed over two months with a hamstring injury, will remain in the lineup. Sears took reps at a few different positions in practice this week… Kick returner Troy Stoudermire, who has lit-up Winnipegs return game since cracking the lineup in early August, watched practice in a walking boot this week. He has been placed on the six-game injured list with a foot/toe injury… With Stoudermire out, Demond Washington and Sam McGuffie will handle return duties. McGuffie also took first-team reps at running back this week, so we may see him get some carries with the offence as well. The soon-to-be 25-year-old heptathlete and decathlete says he plans on training for the 2016 U.S. Olympic team this offseason now that he is done school, where he held the hand-clock 40 record of 4.24 seconds as a freshman at Michigan. NEW YORK — Derek Jeter received warm ovations from the 40,133 at Citi Field when he jogged onto the field during warmups, as a video tribute to him was shown on the scoreboard after the national anthem and before each of his four at-bats. There was little fanfare, though, when the Yankees captain was taken out of his final regular-season Subway Series game in the eighth inning. Jeter watched the last four outs from the bench, pulled off the field during a double switch Thursday night as the Yankees held off the Mets 1-0. “I just told him Im going to make a double-switch. Its where we are in the lineup; thats how you do it,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said of the conversation on the mound with two outs in the eighth. “He understands.” Its not the first time Jeter had been removed in a double switch in his 133 games at a NL ballpark. He was taken out by Girardi in 2010 and he was lifted by Joe Torre in 2007, according to STATS. David Robertson didnt even know he was brought in to face David Wright in a double switch that lifted Jeter until he got Wright to ground out to Jeters replacement at shortstop, defensive whiz Brendan Ryan, with runners at the corners. Robertson pitched a perfect ninth for his seventh save. Six weeks shy of his 40th birthday, Jeter left after an 0-for-4 night that dropped his batting average to .254. Alfonso Sorianos RBI double in the seventh broke up a scoreless duel at Citi Field between starting pitchers making their major league debuts. Rookie reliever Dellin Betances struck out six straight hitters as the Yankees earned a split of this years series between crosstown rivals with their second straight shutout. “Its impressive,” Wright said of Betances. “He had his way with us for sure.” In a matchup of late-round picks in the 2010 draft, Yankees starter Chase Whitley (15th round) pitched two-hit ball for 4 2-3 innings, striking out four and walking two. Mets starter Jacob deGrom (ninth round) allowed one run and four hits in seven innings, striking out six and walking two. “It was unbelievable to watch that guy,” Whitley said of deGrom. “He pitched a heck of a game.” In addition to a commanding performance on the mound, the 25-year-old deGrom helped Mets pitchers end an unusual record for futility. He lined a single to centre field in the third inning to end the staffs 0-for-64 start to the season. The Mets had long passed a century-old record established by the St. Louis Browns. They went hitless in 45 at-bats in 1914, according to information provided by the Mets from the Elias Sports Bureau. Whitley also got a hit in his first at-bat — even before he allowed a hit. “I was bragging about my hitting before the game,” Whitley said, “but then I gave one right back to that guy.” Young pitchers dominated the series in both games at spacious Citi Field after two slugfests in the Bronx. Masahiro Tanaka pitched his first major league shutout Wednesday, a 4-0 win for the Yankees. After Rafael Montero started his big league career with a fine six-inning performance against Tanaka, deGrom distinguished himself. “Its amazing. You cant say enough good things about those two guys,” Wright said. Its been 12 years since a team had pitchers make their big league debuts in consecutive games. Milwaukee did it Sept. 2-3, 2002. Jeter was honoured by the Mets before the game. He received several subway-themed gifts, including a “Cake Boss” creation and a No. 2 mosaic made of subway tiles. The Mets Foundation gave Jeter a $22,222.22 donation to his Turn 2 Foundation. But he did little at the plate. He lined into a double play in the third with runners on first and second. Then with two on in the eighth, he hit a grounder to shortstop Ruben Tejada, who threw home for a tag play at the plate to keep the score 1-0. “Theres a time when the respect for the game takes over and you cant do what you once did,” Mets manager Terry Collins said. “The game deserves all you can give it, and if its not there you got to step aside. Some guys have a tough time doing it but the really great ones dont.” Soriano lined a double to left-centre and catcher Brian McCann scored from first, sliding home as Tejadas relay forced catcher Juan Centeno to leap for it. McCann reached when first baseman Lucas Duda failed to scoop Wrights relay on a potential double-play grounder. Up until then, the Yankees had little success against the shaggy-haired deGrom. The former college shortstop was initially called up to pitch out of the bullpen, but got the start in place of Dillon Gee, who pulled a lat muscle. The 24-year-old Whitley was not even on the Yankees 40-man roster this winter, but with starters CC Sabathia, Michael Pineda and Ivan Nova all injured, he got the call after just 13 Triple-A starts over three seasons. NOTES: Wright struck out three times. … Jeter finished with a .364 career regular-season average against the Mets with 13 homers and 44 RBIs in 360 at-bats. … The Yankees placed OF Carlos Beltran (bone spur) on the 15-day DL. On Monday night, many fans in this city placed the blame squarely on the captain for his role in the James Neal overtime winner against the Pittsburgh Penguins. NEW YORK — Gio Gonzalez apparently gets his swing ready in spring training, too. The pitcher homered in his first start for the second straight season — sprinting around the bases because he didnt realize it was gone — and tossed three-hit ball to lead the Washington Nationals over the New York Mets 5-1 Wednesday night. “I think it was the fastest home run jog in baseball,” Gonzalez said. “I was about to slide home!” Gonzalez also registered six of Washingtons 13 strikeouts, giving the staff a total of 31. In a post on Twitter, the Nationals said thats the most for any team after two games in modern major league history, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. STATS confirmed the 31 whiffs by New York batters were the most in the first two games since at least 1914, surpassing the previous mark of 28 by Houston hitters against Texas last season. Ian Desmond also went deep and Jayson Werth had four hits for the Nationals, who followed up their 10-inning comeback on opening day with a more routine victory against one of Gonzalezs favourite foes. The left-hander walked one in six comfortable innings, improving to 6-0 with a 1.62 ERA in his last seven starts against New York. Left fielder Bryce Harper threw out a runner at the plate, and Denard Span scored twice following extra-base hits. “Today was definitely a little smoother for me personally,” first-year Nationals manager Matt Williams said. “What you worry about is a little bit of a letdown, with everything coming out of spring and a day off, its easy to have a letdown. But they didnt. They were ready to go today, which was great.” Mets manager Terry Collins stacked his lineup with eight right-handed hitters, but it hardly mattered. New York provided little support for Bartolo Colon (0-1), touched up for nine hits over six innings in his Mets debut. The beefy right-hander signed a $20 million, two-year contract in the off-season after going 18-6 with a 2.65 ERA for Oakland last year, when he finished serving a 50-game suspension for a positive drug test. Desmond and Gonzalez (1-0) both homered in the fifth against Colon. “I think I pitched very well,” Colon said through a translator. “They were just coming out a little high, thats all.” Drew Storen, Tyler Clippard and Craig Stammen finished a three-hitter. Mets closer Bobby Parnell has a partially torn elbow ligament that might require surgery, and new outfielder Chris Young came out in the second inning with tightness in his right quadriceps.dddddddddddd The injury kept Young on the bench in the opener. “I feel terrible about not being able to contribute,” he said. Juan Lagares, an early bright spot, got the Mets off to a good start with a leadoff triple. He scored on David Wrights sacrifice fly, snapping Gonzalezs streak of 16 shutout innings at Citi Field. Consecutive doubles by Werth and Adam LaRoche tied it in the fourth. Desmond hit the first pitch of the fifth over the left-centre wall, and Gonzalez went deep two batters later. A right-handed batter, the pitcher drove a 2-2 delivery off the railing just above the shortened fence in left-centre at Citi Field. The ball caromed back onto the outfield grass and Gonzalez sprinted home, unaware that second base umpire Todd Tichenor was signalling home run. “That was epic. Thats going to go down in the memory bank for a long, long time,” Desmond said. Back in the dugout and out in the bullpen, Gonzalezs teammates had a blast. “I was trying to catch my breath as the guys were piling on,” Gonzalez said. “I was just trying to find an oxygen tank.” The umpires didnt even look at a replay. “Even the bullpen guys were telling me, You were running away like you were running from the cops!” Gonzalez said. “I dont know what that is about, but I guess I know what it is now.” It was Gonzalezs third career homer. He also connected during his first outing last season off Miamis Kevin Slowey, and in August 2012 against Houston right-hander Armando Galarraga. “He swung that bat good, didnt he?” Williams said. “Hes got bragging rights for a few days, anyway.” Ruben Tejada tried to score from first when Lagares doubled inside third base with two outs in the fifth, but was cut down at the plate on a strong throw by Harper. “The things he can do with that arm are pretty special,” Desmond said. “Your instincts tell you what a normal outfielder can do, not one with a Bazooka.” NOTES: Williams recalled playing third base behind Colon when the right-hander made his major league debut with Cleveland in 1997. … Washington RHP Jordan Zimmermann starts the series finale Thursday afternoon against RHP Zack Wheeler. CALGARY — Pittsburgh was held to two goals on Saturday night but, against a struggling Calgary offence that set a record for being shutout at home, it was enough. Marc-Andre Fleury made 27 saves to backstop the Penguins to a 2-1 victory over the Flames, handing Calgary its team record sixth consecutive home regulation loss. “It was just nice today, to have a close, low scoring game,” said Fleury, who improved to 26-10-1. “It felt nice. The last few games were a little crazy so its definitely nice and it was a good battle.” It looked for the longest time like Fleury was going to become the sixth goaltender in the last eight games to shut out the Flames before Mikael Backlund cut into a 2-0 deficit with a goal with 8:31 left in the third period. “Its a relief. Its hard when you chase and chase and you get scoring chances and the puck doesnt go in,” Backlund said. “It gets in your head a little bit. It shouldnt but its natural. But as soon as you score one, everybody settles down a little bit and you feel better.” Ending a goalless stretch at the Scotiabank Saddledome at a team record 196 minutes 59 seconds, Backlund outbattled Kris Letang for the puck and scored on a wicked slapshot from 40 feet out. “Obviously it was nice to get a goal since we havent had too many at home here, lately, but were very disappointed that we didnt win the game,” Backlund said. Chris Kunitz and Matt Niskanen scored for Pittsburgh (33-12-2). The Penguins pick up five-of-six points on its three-game road trip that included a win in Vancouver and an overtime loss in Edmonton on Friday. “The Western Canada swing, its always a hype-up for these games,” said Pittsburgh coach Dan Bylsma. “With Sidney in the building, it seems like we get the best from other teams.” Calgary (15-24-6) is next in action Monday in Carolina as they begin a short two-game road trip that sees them also play Tuesday in Nashville. “On the mental side, its good but its another loss,” said Flames coach Bob Hartley, relieved that his team scored but not pleased with the end result. “But I cant fault the effort. Tonight was by far one of our best games lately.” After the Backlund goal, with the roaring sell-out crowd of 19,289 suddenly back in the game and momentum seemingly on their side, Calgary could not get the tying goal as Pittsburgh didnt give the Flames much to work with. That was different than how Fridays loss played out in Edmonton when the Penguins blew a third-period lead and lost in overtime. “After a disappointing third period for us last night, for us it was a much better team game,” said Niskanen. “We got the 2-0 lead, same situation we were in last night and thats something we want to get better at, playing with the lead.” Pittsburgh took a 1-0 lead at 16:34 of the first period on a laser of a shot from Kunitz that beat Reto Berra over his shoulder and just under the cross bar. The Penguins made it 2-0 at 6:42 of the second when Niskanens shot through a crowd in front squeaked through the pads of Berra. The Flames 27-year-old goaltender had 24 saves including two stellar stops against Sidney Crosby less than 30 seconds apart in the first period. With the game scoreless, first Crosby broke in from off the left wing but had his snap shot smothered. Later that shift, Kunitzs pass sprung Crosby on a breakaway from the blue-line but again Berra showed good reflexes in stopping the close wrist shot. Crosby also hit a goal post in seeing his seven-game points streak snapped. Down 2-0 seven minutes into the third period, the Flames had a chance to try to get the game back to even when they got a five-minute power play after Pittsburgh defenceman Robert Bortuzzo was given a match penalty for head contact for a heavy hit along the side boards on Calgary captain Mark Giordano. But the Flames could not click on the major, which was cut short when Mike Cammalleri took a cross-checking penalty during it. Calgary is now 1 for 26 with the man advantage in the last eight games. “If we could have scored a couple power-play goals, we could have won the game. That was the difference,” Backlund said. “We had a few power-play opportunities and we didnt score and its been like that for a while and its been costing us some games.” Notes: The old mark for Calgarys regulation losses at home was five, which happened in March 2000 … Calgary has scored just 12 goals in Berras last 11 starts. … Backlunds goal ended the Flames overall shutout streak at 174:59, short of the team record of 182:42 set in November 2002 … Calgary RW David Jones (eye) missed his fourth game … C Joe Vitale (upper body) did not play for Pittsburgh … Pittsburgh lost centre Brian Gibbons to a lower-body injury in the first period … Pittsburgh has won seven games in a row against the Flames including the last four at the Scotiabank Saddledome … The Penguins improved to 10-2-1 against the West. FORT MYERS, Fla. — All-Star closer Glen Perkins didnt exactly enhance his bargaining power when he told the Minnesota Twins he was eager to get a deal done that would enable him to stay at home. Perkins got his wish Friday, agreeing to a four-year contract that guarantees him $22,175,000. “I approached them because I wanted to be here,” Perkins said. “I wanted to make that clear, first and foremost, that I believe in what were doing here and I wanted to be a part of that. Im thankful to them for even broaching the subject on something they werent required to do.” Born in St. Paul, Perkins went to the University of Minnesota and was the Twins first-round draft pick in 2004. Perkins had been due $4,975,000 this year and $3.75 million in 2015 under his previous deal, which included a $4.5 million team option for 2016 with a $300,000 buyout. His new contract gives him $4,025,000 this year, $4.65 million in 2015, $6.3 million in 2016 and $6.5 million in 2017. The Twins have a $6.5 million option for 2018 with a $700,000 buyout. “I wanted to be here. I grew up in Minnesota. Theres nowhere else that Ive ever wanted to play,” Perkins said. “And so now, hopefully, this is something where Ill get to play here for my whole career.” The 31-year-old lefty converted 36 of 40 save chances last year and was 2-0 with a 2.30 ERA. He had 21 saves at the break and was selected for the AL All-Star team for the first time. “One less thing to worry about,” Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. Perkins has a 28-17 career record with a 3.89 ERA and 54 saves. “Im excited about the commitment they made and look forward to rewarding them, like I did the last two years,” he said. “They gave me a chance in the bullpen a couple years ago and I rewarded them, and I look forward to doing that for the next four, maybe five years.” Asked whether he might have taken a discount for his services, Perkins replied, “Ill take a $22 million discount any day of the week. I want to be here, and thats the most important thing. Thats more money than I need. Its not about that. Its about being here and being home.” The Twins announced the deal while playing a pair of split-squad games. Perkins pitched a hitless inning as Minnesota and Baltimore tied at 2 in Fort Myers. Gardenhire guided the other split squad to a 7-3 win over the New York Yankees in Tampa. Gardenhire said hed heard the Twins and Perkins were working on a deal. “Im excited for him,” Gardenhire said, adding with a laugh, “I think when the contracts up, hell be in a wheelchair.” Perkins made his major league debut with the Twins in 2006. He was 12-4 as a full-time starter in 2008, remained in the rotation in 2009 and then began his move to the bullpen. “The guys come a long way from wanting to be a starter and complaining about it,” Gardenhire said, who liked how Perkins had “grown up” with the Twins. “Very good pitcher with a great arm,” he said. Kyle Gibson, who made 10 starts for Minnesota last year, was glad to hear Perkins would be sticking around for a while. “I dont know if theres anybody better out there. Hes a great team guy. Hes a leader,” Gibson said after pitching four innings against the Yankees. Unless Ryan gets a spot for the Sochi Games to replace an injured player, he will not have a chance to help the Americans go for gold. The U.S. Olympic hockey team was announced Wednesday after Torontos shootout victory over Detroit in the NHL Winter Classic. “We did not pick the 25 best players,” general manager David Poile said. “We picked the 25 players we thought gave us a chance to win the gold medal.” Ryan was perhaps the most surprising omission on the 25-man roster. Jack Johnson and Erik Johnson, a pair of defencemen who played in the Vancouver Games, also didnt make the cut. Jimmy Howard, who couldnt make enough stops to help the Red Wings beat the Maple Leafs, appears to be the Americans third goaltender behind Jonathan Quick and Ryan Miller. At Sochi, the U.S. forwards will be: David Backes, Dustin Brown, Ryan Callahan, Patrick Kane, Ryan Kesler, Phil Kessel, T.J. Oshie, Max Pacioretty, Zach Parise, Joe Pavelski, Paul Stastny, Derek Stepan, James van Riemsdyk and Blake Wheeler. John Carlson, Justin Faulk, Cam Fowler, Paul Martin, Ryan McDonagh, Brooks Orpik, Kevin Shattenkirk and Ryan Suter will be on defence for the Americans.dddddddddddd Miller was named MVP of the ice hockey tournament at the Vancouver Games, but he wasnt a lock to keep a spot because Quick, one of many players on the team who has been injured this season, has been perhaps the worlds best at stopping shots the past two seasons. Howard, Schneider, Gibson, Tim Thomas and Craig Anderson also were options for the selection committee. To play to their potential, a lot of banged-up players will have to get healthy this month and stay that way through February. Players who couldve potentially been on the team, but werent selected include: Ben Bishop, Keith Yandle, Kyle Okposo, Cory Schneider, Brandon Saad and Dustin Byfuglien. The Americans expect to be a medal contender after they were regarded as young underdogs in 2010, when they were a goal away from knocking off the host Canadians. The team will be led by Pittsburgh Penguins coach Dan Bylsma. He has been at ease publicly, saying he likes the Americans chances to win gold for the first time since the Miracle on Ice victory in 1980. A day after taking to Twitter to call out the Toronto Maple Leafs, James Reimers agent has clarified his remarks. Ray Petkau issued the following statement pertaining to a Tuesday night tweet, clarifying that it was not a direct response to Leafs head coach Randy Carlyle. “The tweet I sent out last night, while inadvertently relevant to other comments made was not a response to post game comments from Randy Carlyle or James Reimer,” Petaku said in a statement. “I didnt hear those interviews until later.” Petaku was clarifying his tweet from Tuesday night following the Leafs 3-2 loss to the Detroit Red Wings that read: “As is customary in Toronto, when your team plays poor defensively game after game you blame your goalie.” The tweet was believed by some to be a reaction to Carlyles post-game comments in which he labeled Reimers performance in Detroit as being “just okay.” Petakus remarks came after Reimer has suddenly been thrust back into the Leafs starting role with Jonathan Bernier nursing a groin strain. In the last three games – including the Mar. 14 test against the Los Angeles Kings that saw Bernier go down – the team has gone 1-2. Reimer has posted a .936 save percentage over those three games, allowing six goals total. That stretch includes two perfect periods to finish off the victory over the Kings where Reimer stopped 31 shots in 40 minutes. “Obviously this has been a trying season for James but those are issues that we will deal with in the off-season,” Petakus statement continued. “Twitter is not the place for that but the timing of my tweet necessitated further comment under these circumstances.” “Having the confidence of teammates, coaching staff and a team of supporters around them is imperative for a goalies success, especially in a big hockey market. I will always have my clients back.” Reimer is in the final year of a three-year deal he signed with the Leafs prior to the 2011-12 season worth an average annual value of $1.8 million. He is eligible to become a restricted free agent on July 1. In 29 games with the Leafs this season, Reimer is 11-10-1 with a .913 save percentage and a 3.22 goals-against average. He started 33 games for the Leafs in the lockout-shortened 2012-13 season, posting a 2.46 GAA and a .924 save percentage. The 24-year-old climbing specialist with the Movistar team won two stages and finished with a 2 minute, 58 second advantage over fellow Colombian Rigoberto Uran for his first Grand Tour victory. “Its really emotional,” Quintana said. “I didnt think there would be so many Colombians here today. It was incredible seeing how much support and how many banners there were.” One such banner held aloft during the podium celebration with the Colombian flag on it read, “The Giro is ours. Gracias muchachos.” Fabio Aru, a 23-year-old Italian who is also considered a top rider for the future, finished third overall, 4:04 back. Quintana took the pink jersey by winning the grueling 16th stage over the Gavia and Stelvio climbs then also took the 19th leg, a mountain time trial. Quintana finished second to Chris Froome in last years Tour. While he isnt planning to enter the French race this year, he has designs on winning it next year. “We need to look at our plans carefully,” Quintana said. Slovenias Luca Mezgec won the final stage in a mass sprint. The Giant-Shimano rider clocked 4 hours, 23 minutes, 58 seconds over the mostly flat 172-kilometre (107-mile) leg from Gemona del Friuli to Trieste, which concluded with eight laps of a city circuit. “It couldnt be a better day than this. Were close to Slovenia,” Mezgec said. Giacomo Nizzolo of Italy finished second and Tyler Farrar of the United States was third, both with the same time as Mezgec.dddddddddddd Dressed entirely in pink, Quintana finished safely in the middle of the pack and pumped his fist as he crossed the line then hugged his teammates when he got off his bike. “I can finally say Ive won the Giro,” Quintana said. “I have to thank my teammates and my family here supporting me.” During the playing of the Colombian anthem, Quintana held his pink-clad daughter Mariana, who was born in February. Quintana faced controversy after the 16th stage, in which he attacked on the descent from the Stelvio then powered up the final climb in the lead. There had been some confusion over whether the descent on a wet road was going to be neutralized but race officials declared afterward that his victory was legitimate. Quintana is the first Colombian to win the race — and with Uran, it was a sweep of the top two spots. Another Colombian, Julian Arredondo, won the mountains classification. Colombia President Juan Manuel Santos travelled to Quintanas hometown of Combita to watch the final stage with dozens of friends and neighbours of the cyclist, who was raised in the high Andean town of 16,000 by a family of peasant farmers. Dressed in the pink colour of the tour leaders jersey and surrounded by fans holding signs like “Nairo: all of Colombia loves and thanks you,” Santos said the Quintanas victory was an inspiration to millions of Colombians. “I feel like the entire country is supporting me,” Quintana said numerous times during the three-week race. NAPLES, Fla. – Jason Day and Cameron Tringale shot a 17-under 55 on Thursday in the first-round scramble to take a two-stroke lead in the Franklin Templeton Shootout. The abridged version is, I hit first and then let Jason loose, Tringale said.Day and Tringale tied the tournament scramble record set by tournament host Greg Norman and Nick Price in 1993 and matched by Peter Jacobsen and John Cook in 1998 and Norman and Steve Elkington in 2005.Scramble is one of those formats where you have to go at it and shoot lights out, Day said. It definitely helps when you have a partner who hits it down the middle all the time and putts great. They were 12 under on the last 12 holes at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort, making eagles on Nos. 13 and 14 and birdies on Nos. 9-12 and 15-18.Its great to be able to read the putt together, really put our minds together, because hes a great putter, Day said. He always has been.Defending champions Matt Kuchar and Harris English opened with a 57. They birdied 14 of their last 15 holes. To go 15 is great, Kuchar said. To go 17 is quite amazing. All 12 teams were 11 under or better. The teams will play a modified alternate shot Friday and close with a better-ball round Saturday.English thinks they separated themselves last year in the modified alternate shot.I feel like we can do the same thing as we did last year, English said. Kooch is driving it great right now, so were going to kind of lean on that.Keegan Bradley-Camilo Villegas, Graeme McDowell-Gary Woodland and Ryan Palmer-Jimmy Walker shot 59.Patrick Reed played two days after wife Justine suffered a grand mal seizure. We are really fortunate that she is OK and lucky that I was in the room with her to save her from drowning, Reed saidReed, a late replacement for Chris Kirk, teamed with Brandt Snedeker to shoot 61. They were tied for 10th.(Previous version of story incorrectly listed speaker as Kuchar instead of English in quote.) TORONTO – Scott Milanovich wasnt mincing words Thursday. The Toronto head coach said if the Argonauts want to finish atop the East Division, they must beat the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Friday night. We do recognize how important this is towards positioning, Milanovich said. If we want to win the East, theoretically we have to win this one.Technically its not over (if the Argos lose) but were looking at this like its a playoff game.Toronto (5-8) hosts Hamilton (6-7) at Rogers Centre after the Ticats won the first meeting 13-12 on Sept. 1 at Tim Hortons Field. A win would move the Argos into a first-place tie and even the season series 1-1 with the final meeting slated for Oct. 25 at Rogers Centre.Hamilton would not only clinch the season series with a victory but move four points ahead of Toronto with both having four regular-season games remaining. The first-place finisher secures home-field advantage for the East final. That would work well for the surging Ticats, whove won four straight and are 4-0 at Tim Hortons Field.A loss Friday wouldnt be devastating for Hamilton, which also has two games with Ottawa (2-11) and another with Montreal (5-8) remaining. The Ticats would still control their ability to finish first. Toronto wouldnt so fortunate as a loss Friday would mean theyd need help to finish first. The Argos would have to shift their focus on second spot — and getting home field for the East semifinal — with two key meetings left with Montreal, which also remains very much in the playoff picture.I dont think Toronto is any different than us or Montreal in that regard, Ticats head coach/GM Kent Austin said. You want to have Eastern games towards the end of your schedule to determine the outcome of where youre going to finish.Toronto has won two straight but faces a Hamilton squad thats captured five of its last six contests since quarterback Zach Collaross return. Collaros missed five starts with concussion-like symptoms and returned to lead the Ticats past the Argos 13-12 to officially open Tim Hortons Field.Collaros has four 300-yard passing games since returning and taken Hamiltons on its longest win streak since 98. But thats of no surprise to the Argos as Collaros was 5-2 last year as their starter before signing with the Ticats as a free agent.Hes a winner, hes competitive, he doesnt get rattled, he can move the ball with his arm or his legs, Milanovich said of Collaros. Our guys have a lot of respect for him.Collaros said winning has helped breed confidence within Hamiltons ranks.Weve always been a confident bunch but learning how tto win the tight ones definitely does something for the locker-room, he said.dddddddddddd. Were excited for the opportunity and task at hand.Hamiltons defence has also contributed to the win streak, allowing an average of just 232 yet offensive yards the last six games. The unit is also surrendering just 17.3 points per game over that span and has held its last three opponents under 60 yards rushing.Weve done a great job of keeping teams out of the end zone but weve got a real challenge ahead of us because Toronto can score, Austin said. Weve also done a better job in getting pressure on the quarterback . . . but its not just the sacks, its the hurries and the hits on the quarterback that have been important.Every offensive unit wants to stay out of second-and-long . . . its very tough to convert second-and-long yardage consistently, well enough to sustain drives and score points. Part of the equation of getting teams into second-and-long situations is stopping the run on first and 10.A fact not lost upon Milanovich. The No. 1 thing in my opinion is theyre stopping the run and making you one-dimensional, he said. Theyre getting you into a situation where you dont feel you can run it and youre kind of where they want you where now theyre going to come after the quarterback and try to attack the protection.Toronto counters with veteran quarterback Ricky Ray, who leads the CFL in passing TDs (24) and completion percentage. The Argos will also have slotback Chad Owens in the lineup after he missed the first meeting with a knee injury.Owens leads the CFL in both receiving yards (109) and catches (8.7) per game. Torontos offence has also averaged 35.3 points, 389 net yards and 121 yards rushing the past three games but Ray said having Owens back is key.Hes our best player on offence when hes in there, Ray said. He makes so many plays and thats who youd like to have, a guy whos going to go out there and give you consistent production and will make some plays for you.Fridays contest will also feature two of the CFLs top kickers in Torontos Swayze Waters (33-of-37 field goals, 89.2 per cent) and Hamiltons Justin Medlock (33-of-38, 86.8 per cent).Waters 53-yard boot in a 40-23 road win last month over B.C. is the CFLs longest this year but Milanovich said Waters could better that Friday if conditions are right. The one in B.C. was 53 yards and someone told me it was caught 15 yards deep in the end zone, he said. I know that doesnt necessarily translate that it could go 15 more yards but I would guess if he hit it well, he could get 65. Cheap NFL Jerseys China ‘ ‘ ‘

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Veteran Kings defenceman Robyn Regehr, sidelined since Game 1 of the Anaheim series, says hes close to returning. “I feel good,” the 34-year-old said after the morning skate in advance of Game 1 of the Stanley Cup final against the New York Rangers. “I had a chance to practise a little bit, had a little bit of contact.” But Regehr said his guess was coach Darryl Sutter would go with the same lineup as last time, given the overtime win over Chicago in Game 7 of the Western Conference final. Sutter also indicated Regehrs time would likely come later. “Hes getting closer,” he said. “With only the one game, the way its broke out this week, we probably wouldnt play him tonight.” Game 2 of the series goes Saturday. Regehr, who has played 1,022 regular-season NHL games, was part of Sutters Calgary Flames team that lost the 2004 Cup final to the Tampa Bay Lightning. Asked what he wanted to do differently this time, Regehr said: “Win, simple as that.” Regehr was injured May 3 when he was knocked into the boards by Anaheims Teemu Selanne. Jay Ajayi Green Jersey. And on a day ESPN pegged the Raptors chances at winning the NBA title at a whopping 41 per cent, they scoffed. Anything said outside of their gym, they said, is all just noise. We dont care about nothing ESPN is saying, honestly, DeRozan said. Nobody cares what anybody says. We care about everybody thats got this Raptors jersey on. Everything else dont matter to us, man.Weve got our confidence, Vasquez added. We dont need anybody to talk about us, whether its good or bad.The Raptors practised the day after their 126-115 victory at Atlanta that kept Toronto even with Memphis atop the NBA standings (13-2), and boosted their win streak to six games.Thursdays ESPNs Hollinger Playoff Odds gave the Raptors a 100 per cent chance at making the playoffs, and a 71 per cent chance of making the NBA final.Theyre lofty predictions never before seen in Toronto, but Raptors coach Dwane Casey similarly shrugged them off.Im not a betting man, how many more games have we got to go? A lot of games to go. Im not putting any credence in that, Casey said. When someone asked if the predictions had at least put a smile on his face, he answered: No. Not at all. None whatsoever. I live in reality. All I know is we have a tough game (Friday) night. The Raptors host the Dallas Mavericks (11-5) on Friday amid a huge buzz around Canadas lone NBA franchise. What would have normally been a relatively quiet practice Thursday drew a couple dozen journalists. The players say theyre not looking at records, or getting caught up in the buzz. Theyre just enjoying playing. This is the best team Ive played with by far, DeRozan said. Not just basketball-wise either. Personnel. Everybody gets along, everybody has a great relationship with one another. That goes a long way. . . the chemistry that we have is amazing. That even goes for his high school teams, DeRozan added.Asked what hes thankful for — Thursday was Thanksgiving in the U.S. — DeRozan answered, his arm still slung around Vasquez: Having teammates like Greivis. Honestly. Having teammates like all these guys here. Because it makes every day easier, even on the tough days, you find something to joke about, laugh about, have fun about.ddddddddddddeve all been on bad teams, and what it feels like to come in and work, on the tough days. While the Raptors are off to easily their best start in franchise history, theyve had a favourable schedule at home that included a stretch of seven games in a row at the Air Canada Centre. Theyve also had some luck on their side, playing a Memphis Grizzlies team that was missing five players to a flu virus, and an injury-riddled Oklahoma City squad missing stars Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook.I dont believe in luck. I dont, DeRozan said. I understand how hard I work, how hard this man works (arm still around Vasquez), how hard the other 13 players on this team work. And when people say the luck thing to me, I take it personally, because I know how hard we work to be as good as we are.Wasnt no fluke what we did last year. Wasnt no fluke, no luck.DeRozan pointed to Torontos strong performances on the road — their come-from-behind win over LeBron James and the Cavaliers in Cleveland, Wednesdays solid victory at Atlanta — as proof their red-hot record is more than luck.We like playing on the road, we like playing in other peoples arenas, we get a thrill out of going to other peoples houses and beating them, DeRozan said. If youve got that type of mentality, we can go a long way.Casey said the way his team has won games — pulling out a victory in tough situations — is also proof of the teams growth. The last three games we were in a pickle, Casey said. They fell behind by 18 points to the Cavaliers before roaring back to beat them. They gave up seven three-pointers in the fourth quarter to Phoenix before clinching the win with a final 60 seconds of sheer hustle and hard work. They allowed Atlanta to stay close on Wednesday before pulling away down the stretch.I think two years ago, a year-and-a-half ago, we would have folded the tent, Casey said. But there seems to be a resolve developing with our players, fighting through stuff, fighting through adversity, making adjustments at halftime mentally and physically. Thats a tough way to live throughout this live. As a coach Id prefer wed start doing it the first quarter. . . thats our next step.Following Fridays game, the Raptors head west for three straight, playing the Lakers in Los Angeles on Sunday, the Kings on Tuesday in Sacramento, and the Utah Jazz on Wednesday. On February 20, down 2-0 against the Americans with under four minutes to play, it looked as if the Canadian womens hockey teams dream of capturing their fourth straight Olympic gold medal had faded away. Team Canadas experience though allowed them to overcome the late 2-0 deficit and make history beating the Americans 3-2 in overtime. However, the comeback that happened in less than 15 minutes of playing time took years of experience and preparation. On the bench was Jayna Hefford. A member of every Canadian Olympic team since 1998, Hefford used all of that experience for the tense third period and overtime. “With six, seven minutes left in the third, I thought its not looking good, but that thought only lasted five seconds. Once we got that first one, I knew wed be fine.” Hefford and Team Canada faced a big hurdle weeks before the historic gold medal game. Dan Church, their coach since 2012, unexpectedly resigned two months before the Olympics were to begin. Also, many veterans that were expected to carry a lot of the teams responsibilities were surprisingly not selected. “With Dan, we tried to ask some questions to get some answers, but we really didnt find anything. It got to the point where we realized the decision was out of our hands.” Under new coach Kevin Dineen, the team spent ten days in Austria to regroup before they headed to Sochi. It was a time for rest and recuperation before the competition since every member of the team was exhausted both physically and mentally. Despite the challenges, the Canadians put together a string of wins that led them to the gold medal game. And the team didnt need any extra motivation when they saw who was at the other end of the ice. “There is no one youd rather beat then the Americans. Theyre the best team outside of us. Thats the team you want to play in any final,” says Hefford. Although the Canadians were down a pair of goals, that first tally gave them a lifeline. The second goal tied the game, creating emotions for even the veteran players that thought they had seen it all. “When (Marie-Philip) Poulin got the tying goal, thats the most excited Ive ever been for any moment of a game in any moment of my career,” Hefford says. “But in the third period and overtime, you try to contain your emotions a little bit.” The team could let their emotions lose eight minutes into overtime when Poulin, who was the hero in Vancouver in 2010, scored again to give Canada yet another gold. “It still feels very surreal how that game dramatically turned. Its such a great feeling and its still hard to believe,” says Hefford. Theres very little Hefford has not accomplished in her career but after a fourth gold medal, it would be tempting to go for a fifth in 2018. “After Vancouver I didnt know if I was going to keep playing. I felt really good and I thought I had four more years. But now its time for me to look at my options. Going out after a game like that would be perfect.” There is nothing more perfect than going out on top of the hockey world. Mario Edwards Jr Raiders Jersey. Adams drove in four runs, A.J. Pierzynski had three hits in his St. Louis debut and the Cardinals beat the Chicago Cubs 6-3 on Saturday to stop a four-game skid. Adams doubled sharply in the first inning, a one-hopper that bounced past first baseman Anthony Rizzo and into right field to score two runs. Adams two-run triple with two outs in the seventh made it 5-2. “He was our guy today,” Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said. “If you look at when we started to gain some traction in our division, its when Matt started to go. Not to put the pressure on him, but he was the guy at the time and hes continued to do that, to step up big for us.” Helping out Adams was the 37-year-old Pierzynski, who signed with the Cardinals on Saturday, 10 days after he was released by Boston. St. Louis had been looking for a steady presence behind the plate since All-Star catcher Yadier Molina tore a ligament in his right thumb July 9. Molina had surgery two days later and is expected to miss eight to 12 weeks. “That was pretty much a cram session for A.J. there,” Matheny said. “He did a nice job coming in, obviously making an impact with the bat, but I felt like he had a nice feel for what Shelby (Miller) was doing.” Miller returned to the Cardinals rotation and pitched effectively into the sixth inning. The young right-hander began the game with three perfect innings and retired 16 of his first 18 batters. In his first start since being removed from the rotation July 10, Miller allowed two runs and three hits in 5 2-3 innings. He had given up at least three runs in his previous five starts. Randy Choate (2-2) got the last out of the sixth. Trevor Rosenthal worked around two hits in a scoreless ninth, earning his 31st save in 35 tries. “When you get in a groove and youre feeling pretty good, in a rhythm, you just keep going,” Miller said. “Thats kind of what I felt like I did today.dddddddddddd” Nate Schierholtz hit a solo shot for the Cubs in the sixth, tying it at 2. It was Schierholtzs fourth career pinch-hit homer. Rizzo drove in a run with a groundout in the fourth. Cubs starter Jake Arrieta settled in after the two-run first inning, allowing just three baserunners the rest of the way. He thwarted Cardinals threats in the fourth and fifth, and a diving catch by left fielder Chris Coughlan helped Arrieta escape the sixth. “He did it with not his best stuff, but he was still pretty effective,” Cubs manager Rick Renteria said. “That performance was probably indicative of how much hes grown.” With Arrieta out of the game, the Cardinals pulled back ahead in the seventh, scoring four runs against reliever James Russell (0-2). Jon Jay hit a leadoff single, advanced on a sacrifice and stole third before scoring the tiebreaking run on Matt Carpenters grounder. Russells four earned runs allowed marked his worst outing since July 21, 2012, when he gave up six, also against the Cardinals. Ryan Sweeney hit a leadoff homer against Pat Neshek in the eighth, his third home run of the season and second this series. NOTES: Adams had only four RBIs in his previous 23 games against the Cubs. … Pierzynski, who batted sixth for the Cardinals, was booed loudly by the Wrigley Field crowd during his first at-bat. Pierzynski played seven seasons on the south side of Chicago for the White Sox. … The Cubs optioned RHP Neil Ramirez to Triple-A Iowa and recalled RHP Blake Parker. The 25-year-old Ramirez has a 0.96 ERA in 33 appearances this season. Renteria indicated the move was made to give Ramirez a rest and was not based on performance. … Rizzo went 0 for 4, ending his 10-game hitting streak. … Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright (12-5, 2.02 ERA) pitches the series finale Sunday against Kyle Hendricks (1-0, 2.77), who will make his third big league start. Charlotte, NC (SportsNetwork.com) – Cam Newton accounted for two touchdowns and the Carolina Panthers picked up a crucial win to set up a winner-take-all NFC South showdown next week. Newtons 9-yard touchdown pass to Jonathan Stewart in the fourth quarter was the difference, and Carolina topped the Cleveland Browns, 17-13, on Sunday. The scoring strike to Stewart, which capped a 7-play, 66-yard drive, came less than three minutes after the Browns took their first lead on Brian Hoyers 81-yard touchdown pass to tight end Jordan Cameron. Hoyer replaced Johnny Manziel late in the first half after the rookie exited with a hamstring injury. The Panthers (6-8-1) will travel to Atlanta next week with the division on the line. Whoever wins that game will clinch the NFC South and host a playoff game. Final Score: Detroit 20, Chicago 14 Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) – Joique Bells touchdown run in the fourth quarter gave the Detroit Lions a 20-14 victory over the Chicago Bears on Sunday. Detroits win coupled with Green Bays triumph in Tampa Bay, means the winner of the NFC North will be decided next week as the Lions will travel to Lambeau Field in a winner-take-all Week 17 matchup. The Lions came into the game having been assured of a playoff spot due to Philadelphias loss to Washington on Saturday. It is the first time since the 2011 season that the team has made it to the postseason. Green Bay also locked up a playoff spot Sunday. Matthew Stafford had a rough game as he went just 22-for-39 for 243 yards with a pair of red zone interceptions, while Reggie Bush also had a rushing touchdown for the Lions (11-4), who have won four straight to reach 11 wins for the first time since going 12-4 in 1991. Jimmy Clausen played admirably in the start, as he was under center in favor of a benched Jay Cutler. Clausen finished the game 23-for-39 for 181 yards and a pair of touchdown passes along with an interception for the Bears (5-10), who have lost their past four games. Final Score: Houston 25, Baltimore 13 Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) – Randy Bullock converted a franchise-record six field goals while Arian Foster threw a touchdown pass as the Houston Texans downed the Baltimore Ravens, 25-13, in Week 16 action. Case Keenum passed for 185 yards and was picked off once after completing 20-of-42 passes to record his first career win as a starter for the Texans (8-7), who guaranteed themselves at least a .500 season with their third win in the last four. Foster also racked up a game-high 96 yards rushing on 25 attempts while C.J. Fiedorowicz was the beneficiary of his scoring throw. Andre Johnson totaled 65 yards on six catches and reached the 1,000-reception plateau. Joe Flacco had one of his worst days as a professional, completing only 21 of his 50 passes for 195 yards, two touchdowns to Torrey Smith and three interceptions for the Ravens (9-6), who had a two-game win streak snapped. Baltimore needs a win next week at home against Cleveland and some help in order to snag a wild-card berth. Steve Smith picked up 49 yards on five grabs, while Justin Forsett was held to 19 yards on 10 carries. Final Score: Miami 37, Minnesota 35 Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) – Terrence Fede blocked Jeff Lockes punt out of the end zone for a safety with 41 seconds left, sending the Miami Dolphins to a 37-35 win over the Minnesota Vikings. The blocked punt came after Damien Williams 3-yard TD catch tied the game for the Dolphins. The fourth quarter featured a combined 41 points. Despite the win, Miami (8-7) was eliminated from playoff contention due to the Steelers win over Kansas City. Dolphins owner Stephen Ross said in the locker room after the game that head coach Joe Philbin will be back next season. Ryan Tannehill completed 35-of-47 passes for 396 yards, four touchdowns and an interception for the Dolphins, who snapped a two-game skid. Lamar Miller carried the ball 19 times for 92 yards and a score and caught five passes for 58 yards. Mike Wallace hauled in five passes for 58 yards and two touchdowns. Teddy Bridgewater connected on 19-of-26 passes for 259 yards, two touchdowns and an interception for the Vikings (6-9), who have lost two in a row. Matt Asiata carried the ball 16 times for 58 yards and two touchdowns. Greg Jennings caught three passes for 56 yards and a score. Final Score: Atlanta 30, New Orleans 14 New Orleans, LA (SportsNetwork.com) – Matt Ryan threw for 322 yards and the Atlanta Falcons maligned defense rose to the occasion in a season-saving 30-14 victory over New Orleans that dropped the erratic Saints out of the NFC South race. Entering this critical divisional showdown ranked at the bottom of the NFL in total defense, pass defense and sacks, the Falcons put forth their best effort of the year on that side of the ball to set up a winner- take-all matchup with Carolina for the NFC South crown next Sunday at the Georgia Dome. Atlanta (6-9) held the Saints to 328 total yards and came up with five sacks and four takeaways, including a pivotal fumble from Jimmy Graham at the goal line early in the fourth quarter and Osi Umenyioras 86-yard fumble return touchdown on the final play. Ryan did his part as well, completing a sharp 30-of-40 passes with a touchdown and no turnovers. Julio Jones racked up 107 yards on seven catches after not practicing the entire week due to a hip injury. Drew Brees finished 30-of-47 for 313 yards and a touchdown to Graham, but was intercepted twice in the loss, the fifth straight at the Superdome for New Orleans (6-9). Final Score: Pittsburgh 20, Kansas City 12 Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) – The Steelers are back in the playoffs. Ben Roethlisberger threw a touchdown pass and Pittsburghs defense held strong in a 20-12 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs at Heinz Field. The Steelers (10-5) secured a wild card berth and will host Cincinnati next Sunday for the AFC North title. The Bengals (9-4-1) host AFC West-champion Denver Monday night. Pittsburgh, in the playoffs for the first time since the 2011 season, held the Chiefs (8-7) out of the end zone and limited them to four Cairo Santos field goals. Kansas Citys playoff hopes are slim heading into next Sundays home game against San Diego (9-6). The Steelers exacted revenge on the Chiefs for last season. In the final week, Kansas City rested the majority of its starters in a 27-24 overtime loss to San Diego. That ultimately knocked Pittsburgh out of playoff contention. The Chiefs lost for the fourth time in five games. Final Score: Green Bay 20, Tampa Bay 3 Tampa, FL (SportsNetwork.com) – The Packers clinched a spot in the playoffs for the sixth straight season on the backs of their defense, limiting the Buccaneers to 109 yards of offense in a 20-3 win over Tampa Bay Sunday. Next week the Packers host the Detroit Lions, and the winner of that game clinches the NFC North title. Detroit rallied for a 20-14 win at Chicago Sunday. Offensively the Packers (11-4) were led by Aaron Rodgers once again as he threw for 318 yards and a touchdown to Jordy Nelson. Rodgers completed 31-of-40 passes. Nelson caught nine passes for 113 yards and fellow receiver Randall Cobb set career highs with 11 catches and 131 receiving yards. Eddie Lacy ran for 99 yards on 17 carries, including a 44- yard touchdown to open the scoring in the first quarter. Tampa Bay (2-13) got only 16 rushing yards, led by Doug Martin with 17. His longest run of the day was four yards. McCown completed just 12-of-26 passes for 147 yards. Vincent Jackson caught three passes for 60 yards, and Mike Evans added 49 yards on four receptions. Final Score: NY Giants 37, St. Louis 27 St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) – Odell Beckham Jr. put on a show once again, amassing 148 yards and two touchdowns on eight catches to help the New York Giants record a 37-27 win over the St. Louis Rams. New Yorks third straight victory featured another jaw-dropping performance by the rookie sensation, who followed up an 11-reception, 130-yard effort at Tennessee in Week 14 with last Sundays 12-grab, 143-yard, three-touchdown display against Washington. Beckham wasnt the only Giant to put up big numbers on a day in which New York (6-9) piled up a season-best 514 yards. Eli Manning threw for 391 yards and three touchdowns while completing 25-of-32 attempts, Rueben Randle caught six passes for 132 yards and a touchdown and Andre Williams added 110 rushing yards on 26 carries. St. Louis (6-9) hadnt allowed a touchdown in any of its previous three games, having yielded only 12 points during that stretch. Shaun Hill hit on 24-of-32 throws for 290 yards with two touchdowns and an interception for the Rams. Kenny Britt finished with 103 yards on nine catches, while Tre Mason had 76 yards and a touchdown on 13 rushes in the loss. Final Score: Dallas 42, Indianapolis 7 Arlington, TX (SportsNetwork.com) – Tony Romo threw for 218 yards with four touchdowns on 18-of-20 efficiency to lead the Dallas Cowboys to a 42-7 win over the Indianapolis Colts, and help clinch the franchises 19th NFC East title in the process. Dallas (11-4), which just needed a win in one of its final two games after Philadelphias loss to Washington on Saturday, captured the division crown for the first time since 2009. The Eagles, meanwhile, have been eliminated from playoff contention. DeMarco Murray was active even though he underwent surgery Monday on his fractured left hand sustained in last Sundays win over the Eagles. Murray rushed for 58 yards on 22 carries with a touchdown. Terrance Williams hauled in two touchdown passes, while Jason Witten, Dez Bryant and Cole Beasley each had a touchdown grab in the Cowboys third straight win. The Colts (10-5), who clinched the AFC South last week, had their four-game winning streak snapped. Andrew Luck threw for a career-low 109 yards on 15-of-22 passing with two interceptions before getting substituted for Matt Hasselbeck late in the third. Lucks 41.7 passer rating was the lowest of his career. Final Score: Oakland 26, Buffalo 24 Oakland, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – Derek Carr passed for 214 yards and two touchdowns, while Sebastian Janikowski kicked four field goals as the Oakland Raiders topped the Buffalo Bills, 26-24, on Sunday. Carr completed 17-of-34 attempts and tossed scores to James Jones and Jamize Olawale for the Raiders (3-12), who have a chance to match their win total of the past two seasons if they top the Broncos in Denver next week. Latavius Murray and Darren McFadden combined for 140 yards on 32 attempts, while Kenbrell Thompkins posted 90 yards on five receptions. Kyle Orton finished 32-of-49 for 329 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions for the Bills (8-7), who conclude the regular season at New England seven days from now having been eliminated from postseason contention. With the running game largely shackled to the tune of 13 yards on 13 attempts, Fred Jackson totaled 93 yards on nine catches, while Sammy Watkins, Scott Chandler and Robert Woods posted a TD catch apiece. Final Score: Seattle 35, Arizona 6 Glendale, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) – Marshawn Lynch wasnt on the field for the start of the game due to an upset stomach. Following a drink of water and a mouthful of skittles, he was ready to go. Lynch then gave the Arizona Cardinals faithful nausea with a back-breaking touchdown run early in the fourth quarter. Lynch broke off a career-high 79-yard scamper to put the game away as the Seahawks seized control of the NFC West with a 35-6 victory over the Cardinals on Sunday night. The Seahawks had already held a 21-6 advantage before Lynch took a handoff off left tackle. He burst through the hole and cut across the field along the right sideline and stiff-armed Arizona cornerback Patrick Peterson at the Seattle 45. Lynch then powered through Peterson and Cardinals safety Rashad Johnson across midfield and Alex Okafor was unable to make a shoe-string tackle at the 20 before he leapt into the end zone to complete the phenomenal touchdown. Seattle won for the eighth time in nine games following a 3-3 start and can win the NFC West and clinch homefield advantage throughout the NFC Playoffs with a win over the St. Louis Rams next Sunday afternoon. The Seahawks hold the tiebreaker over Arizona after sweeping the season series. Lynch carried the ball 10 times for 113 yards and two scores. Russell Wilson was 20-of-31 for 339 yards and two touchdowns, while racking up 88 yards and a score on the ground for Seattle (11-4), which totaled a franchise-record 596 yards. SATURDAY, DECEMBER 20 Final Score: Washington 27, Philadelphia 24 Landover, MD (SportsNetwork.com) – Kai Forbath kicked a 26-yard field goal with five seconds remaining to lift the Washington Redskins to a 27-24 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday. The Redskins snapped a six-game losing streak and dealt a significant blow to the Eagles playoff hopes. Philadelphia has lost three straight games since a Thanksgiving win at Dallas gave it sole possession of first place in the NFC East. A win at home by the Cowboys against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday will eliminate the Eagles from postseason contention. The Eagles (9-6) have been prone to turning the ball over this season and cornerback Bashaud Breeland intercepted Mark Sanchezs pass at the Washington 42-yard line inside the two- minute warning. Robert Griffin III then threw a short pass to Pierre Garcon, who spun out of a defenders grasp for a 23-yard gain. A roughing the passer penalty tacked on 15 more yards and the Redskins added one more first down, forcing Philadelphia to use each of its three timeouts before Forbath nailed the go-ahead kick. The Eagles, who had erased a 24-14 deficit, were still alive with three seconds remaining because Forbath drilled Trey Burton with the kickoff at midfield. Cornerback David Amerson knocked down Sanchezs pass in the end zone to end the game. Griffin completed 16-of-23 passes for 220 yards with one interception and Darrel Young had two 1-yard touchdown runs in the third quarter for Washington (4-11). Sanchez was 37- of-50 for 374 yards and threw two touchdown passes to Riley Cooper. Tight end Zach Ertz set an Eagles franchise record with 15 catches for a career-high 115 yards. Final Score: San Diego 38, San Francisco 35 (OT) Santa Clara, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – Philip Rivers arm got the San Diego Chargers to overtime. Eric Weddles arm helped them win the game once they got there. Rivers led two touchdown drives in the final nine minutes of regulation and Weddle forced a fumble that led to Nick Novaks winning 40-yard field goal in overtime, as the Chargers rallied to beat the San Francisco 49ers 38-35 in a thriller on Saturday night. San Diego trailed by 21 points at halftime and by 14 in the fourth quarter before Rivers touchdown passes to Antonio Gates and Malcom Floyd, the last one coming with 29 seconds left on the clock. Weddle, the veteran safety, stripped wide receiver Quinton Patton on a 20-yard end-around — just San Franciscos second play in overtime — and Novak split the uprights for the win. Rivers passed for 356 yards with four touchdowns and San Diego (9-6) overcame his three interceptions, including two that led to 14 San Francisco points in the first half. The playoff-hopeful Chargers stopped a two-game losing streak, winning without injured stars Ryan Mathews and Keenan Allen. Despite 355 rushing yards, the 49ers (7-8) suffered their fourth straight loss, guaranteeing them their first non-winning season under Jim Harbaugh. Colin Kaepernick had the second-longest touchdown run by a quarterback in NFL history, a 90-yarder late in the third quarter that restored San Franciscos 14-point lead. It came two just two plays after his fumble was recovered in the end zone by Corey Liuget for a San Diego touchdown. Kaepernick passed for 114 yards with a touchdown to Bruce Ellington and rushed for 151 on seven carries. Frank Gore added 158 yards on 26 rushes, including a 52-yard touchdown run less than two minutes into the game. THURSDAY, DECEMBER 18 Final Score: Jacksonville 21, Tennessee 13 Jacksonville, FL (SportsNetwork.com) – Jordan Todmans 62-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter highlighted the Jacksonville Jaguars 21-13 victory over the Tennessee Titans on Thursday night. Blake Bortles completed 13-of-26 passes for 115 yards and one touchdown for the Jaguars, who scored 21 straight points after falling behind 10-0. Todman carried the ball five times for 71 yards for Jacksonville (3-12), which avenged a 16-14 loss to these Titans on Oct. 12. Toby Gerhart rushed for 53 yards and a score on 12 carries. Tennessee turned back to Charlie Whitehurst due to injuries and he connected on 24-of-35 passes for 287 yards and one touchdown. Leon Washington caught seven passes for 62 yards and a score. Bishop Sankey carried the ball 14 times for 44 yards for the Titans (2-13), who have lost nine in a row. http://www.footballpantherspro.com/panthers-scott-simonson-blue-jersey/.B. — Canadian pairs skaters Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford went from elated to frustrated in the span of a few minutes. http://www.footballpantherspro.com/panthers-jonathan-stewart-blue-jersey/. The Calgary Stampeders announced both moves on Wednesday. Parker played 17 regular season games with the Stampeders in 2013, setting career-highs in catches (21) and yards (217).SHAPES OF MLS Toronto FC had week one of the new MLS season off, but their first opponents, the Seattle Sounders, kicked the campaign off with a home match against current MLS Cup champions, Sporting Kansas City. Rain and a slippery surface made passing difficult for both sides, but Ryan Nelsen and his coaching staff were given more than a few glimpses at the way a new Seattle side will want to play. The Sounders would win the game 1-0 in the fourth and final minute of added time through substitute and former TFC striker Chad Barrett. Front Two With Clint Dempsey only named on the bench, the attention was already on the front two of Seattle before the game began. Once it started, it was interesting to see Kenny Cooper, acquired from FC Dallas last December, as the striker who dropped deep. Lamar Neagle and former Chicago Fire star Marco Pappa were named by Sigi Schmid to play out wide, but neither of these players hugged the touchlines, instead choosing to play narrower to help their midfield duo. Full backs, Dylan Remick and DeAndre Yedlin in particular, were asked to provide width. It is worth noting that Yedlin had a very good game and whoever plays on the left for Toronto FC next week will have to work very hard defensively on that flank. The choice of Cooper to drop in, while surprising, turned out to be effective. First of all, Cooper recognized his defensive responsibilities. He knows Sporting Kansas City like to play the ball out to the centre backs, so he sat well on their first outlet, Lawrence Olum, as this image shows, while also highlighting the narrowness of the three behind Obafemi Martins. Coopers ability to drop into space also confused the centre backs who were unsure how deep to defend once he was able to get into the channels between the lines. Aurelien Collin, on this occasion, found himself guessing whether to stay deep and track the run of Martins or go to win the aerial battle against Cooper. If Cooper starts against Toronto, his positioning will need to be tracked more by the defensive midfielder, likely Michael Bradley, to stop Steven Caldwell from stepping up and leaving space in behind him, which is what happened for Martins here. Finding space behind Alonso and Evans There are very few midfield pairings in MLS better than Osvaldo Alonso and Brad Evans. Thee two have an excellent understanding, but one thing Toronto FC will look to exploit next week is the space they leave behind them.ddddddddddddSeattles centre backs are not the quickest, so they like to sit deep and usually the midfield is diligent in its positioning, but when the team loses second balls, there is space behind them to exploit quickly on the counter. Toronto FC will need someone with the intelligence of Graham Zusi, who did it for KC, to recognize those times. Here you see Alonso lose concentration and Evans press, leaving space for Zusi to run into… Seconds later, Zusi is away to orchestrate a scoring opportunity for the visitors against an unprotected defence…. It helped that Sporting Kansas Citys 4-3-3 had someone with Zusis intelligence but Torontos likely 4-4-1-1 will have three candidates to get into that space with the wide men and whoever plays off the striker, likely Dwayne De Rosario, who, perhaps, wouldnt be best suited on the left against Yedlins attacks. Midfield structure essential to the end This game looked destined to end 0-0 when Benny Feilhaber was withdrawn in the 92nd minute, but a minute later his replacement, Ike Opara, was easily beaten by Alonso deep in his own half and suddenly Seattles DP had acres of space to sprint into. Suddenly, Alonso had their opponents where he wanted them, as he transitioned into their half and connected with Dempsey, who would lay it out wide for the cross that would win the match. It was a fairytale finish for Seattle who now head into next weeks game against Toronto FC with a perfect three points. We have seen that they do allow space in behind their full backs and the central midfield, but you have to be intelligent enough to exploit that when the opportunities arise. It will be interesting to see what they do with Dempsey. When he came on in the second half, he played just off Martins with Cooper moving out wide before he was later taken off. For that moment, there was room for all three on the pitch, but it will be rare to see that from the start. The key for Toronto will be tracking whichever player joins Martins in attack. The former Newcastle striker was quiet in this game, but this season will feast on slow defensive lines by running in behind when Cooper or Dempsey plays him in. Cheap NFL Jerseys China ‘ ‘ ‘

DETROIT — James Ihedigbos hard work has paid off. The Detroit Lions signed Ihedigbo to a $3.1 million, two-year contract, according to a person familiar with the negotiations. The person, who said the deal included a $750,000 signing bonus, spoke to The Associated Press on Thursday on condition of anonymity because the terms had not been announced. Ihedigbo earned a spot in the NFL after being an undrafted free agent and a walk-on in college. The Lions plan to put him in the starting lineup next to safety Glover Quin to replace Louis Delmas, who they released last month. Ihedigbo ranked second in tackles for Baltimore Ravens last season and had three interceptions after having one in his previous five years in the league. He will be reunited with first-year coach Jim Caldwell and defensive co-ordinator Teryl Austin, both of whom were assistant coaches last year in Baltimore. He started 12 games in 2011 for the New England Patriots and had 67 tackles, ranking fifth on the team. Ihedigbo made his NFL debut with the New York Jets during the 2008 season. He was cut by the Jets the previous year as an undrafted rookie, who went from being a walk-on to a standout at Massachusetts. Detroit seems to have accomplished its major goals so far this off-season. The Lions signed former Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Golden Tate and ex-New Orleans Saints fullback Jed Collins as free agents. They also re-signed running back Joique Bell, tight end Brandon Pettigrew and centre Dominic Raiola. The franchise will likely shift its focus on contract talks with defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, who is scheduled to count more than $20 million against the salary cap in 2014. But after losing 108-100 they had to wait for some help from the Atlanta Hawks, which came moments later in the form of a 93-88 win over the Brooklyn Nets. “Its sweet and sour,” Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry said. “Its very sweet that we won the division but it sucks that we didnt win it by a win. But well take the division champs any day.” Atlantic Division T-shirts were draped over each chair in the Raptors locker-room to celebrate following the Nets loss. But despite locking up the division, the Raptors wont be taking it easy for the rest of the season. “Were still anxious,” said DeMar DeRozan, who led Toronto with 26 points. “We still want more. Were not satisfied with nothing (yet). “We understand we have much more basketball to play and a long road to go and we want to take advantage of it. Not just get there and say we got there, where people doubted us. We definitely feel like we can go in and make some noise.” Carmelo Anthony shook off a sore shoulder and scored a game-high 30 points and Amare Stoudemire scored 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the New York (34-45) overcame a slow start to pick up the win. Lowry added 25 points for the Raptors (46-33) and Jonas Valanciunas had 14 points and a career-high 21 rebounds. The Knicks arrived in Toronto after a four-day break between games. “It helped a lot,” Anthony said of the time off. “It helped big time. I got a chance to get some rest, got treatment on multiple days and it helped me tonight.” Amir Johnson returned to the lineup after missing the previous three games with a sore right ankle. He played 17 minutes and was scoreless from the field. “Im good,” Johnson said. “I just got to get back into a groove. It felt like I was a step slow. Amare came out freaking flying … He definitely played great.” Stoudemires 24 points were a season-high. He logged 40 minutes against the Raptors. “Amare was big,” Knicks head coach Mike Woodson said. “I played him well over his minutes that we set him at, but I didnt have a choice. He elected to go and that was good for me.” The Knicks shot 50 per cent from the floor in the first quarter, but the Raptors held a two-point advantage over New York heading into the second quarter after scoring six-of-eigght three-point attempts.dddddddddddd Anthony, who missed both previous games between the Knicks and Raptors this season with a sprained ankle, made his presence felt early, scoring 18 points in the first half. “Unbelievable,” said Raptors head coach Dwane Casey of Anthonys effort on the court. “He made the plays he made. He was double-teamed. John Salmons and Terrence (Ross) were draped over him. I cant fault the effort. He made some tough shots.” Despite Anthonys strong performance however, the Raptors took a 47-45 lead into the break. After connecting on 7-of-12 attempts from beyond the arc in the first half, Toronto made seven three-pointers in the third frame. Toronto continued to struggle with Anthony, though, and the Knicks took a 78-77 lead into the fourth on the strength of Anthonys 27 points through three quarters. “We had no answer for him,” Casey said. “We double-teamed him. We rotated all of the big men we had. We fronted, whatever we had to do. He made the shots. He made the plays, some tough plays. Carmelo was Carmelo.” The Raptors went more than six minutes without scoring a field goal after a dunk from DeRozan at the 9:15 mark of the fourth quarter kept them within two points. Torontos offensive drought allowed the Knicks to pull ahead by 11 points, their largest lead of the game. Stoudemire scored eight of his 24 points in the fourth quarter. Lowry, who set a franchise record for most three-pointers made in a season with 180 — passing Morris Petersons record of 177 set in 2005-06 — was assessed a technical foul with 2:09 remaining in the third for arguing a non-call after a drive to the basket. Prior to the game, Casey stressed the importance of facing a team that is fighting for an opportunity to make the post-season. While he was disappointed with the loss, he said the Raptors lost to a team playing with its back against the wall. “Its funny how the expectations change,” Casey said. “We go from developing and now all at once we lost to Carmelo Anthony and a team like this and the world (is collapsing). “We still have some growing to do. We have a great foundation from where we are. Now we just want to be ready to go into the playoffs with some momentum.” NOTES: Andrew Wiggins of Vaughan, Ont., who is expected to be a top pick at the next NBA draft, sat courtside.
